Set: Chople Tyranitar

Tyranitar @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Flamethrower
- Pursuit

This is one of the best Tyranitar sets to run right now. Tyranitar has a lot of versatility, and going mixed with Chople takes good advantage of its options. Every move on this set serves a specific key purpose, opening up crucial holes in opposing teams for certain team members to sweep through.

First off, the EVs. Going max / max prevents Tyranitar from being 2HKOed by Specs Latios' Surf, even after Stealth Rock damage. Max Special Defense isn't completely necessary, but it provides the best chance of surviving against and trapping Latios. The extra bulk also compensates for the lack of Leftovers and makes switching into threats like Heatran easier.

Rock Slide is an unusual but crucial move on this set. It OHKOes two specific threats: Thundurus and Volcarona. Chople helps Tyranitar survive a Focus Blast from the former, while the EVs ensure that even a boosted Bug Buzz from the latter won't KO. Stone Edge has more power, but Rock Slide has better accuracy and still gets the necessary kills. Flamethrower helps to hit Steel switch-ins, and is arguably a better option than Fire Blast, due to the lack of Special Attack investment. Finally, Pursuit traps opponents like Latios and Gengar. With this much Special Defense, Tyranitar can practically guarantee a kill on both.

This set pairs well with certain sweepers. Nasty Plot Celebi is a great choice, since Tyranitar can eliminate some of its most common counters: Latios, Latias and Heatran. Sand abusers also serve as good partners that can take advantage of Sand Stream. All in all, Chople Tyranitar is an excellent supporter and team player.

  1. Damn man, this is another very well thought-out anti metagame set. T-Tar is no doubt one of the best Pokemon to use at the moment, and even with a bulky spread, and little or no offensive investment, it can still net some very notable KOs on some of today's most threatening OU monsters. It also helps that you mention a sweeper that partners well with this set, it helps with the team building aspect when I want to consider using something like this. Thanks again sir, you're a real help with these sets.

Also, if it's not too much to ask, my blog (the account I'm using to write this comment) is a little similar to yours, though I exemplify several sets that are usable for a particular Pokemon. It's not much, but I'd really appreciate it if someone of your calibur in competitive battling could check it out. That would help me out so much. Thanks again.
