Set: Stallbreaker Mew

Mew @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Softboiled
- Psychic

This set was posted in a recent Smog article, but it still hasn't caught on at all. Despite its UU status, Mew's bulk and extensive move pool allow it to function effectively in OU. With the listed moveset and EVs, Mew can be extremely difficult to take down for people unaccustomed to dealing with it.

Most people's instinctive switch-ins to Mew will be Tyranitar or Scizor. Mew can burn both of these, crippling them and preventing either from doing much damage. Although both usually run bulkier sets now, even their Choice Band sets fail to 2HKO after being burned. Mew also hard counters Conkeldurr, who can't 2HKO with Payback after a Bulk Up. The speed puts the set one point above the common 244 mark and allows it to outpace standard Breloom to get off a Taunt or Psychic first.

Taunt is Mew's method of pressuring defensive teams, which helps a lot against stall. Softboiled  gives Mew a reliable recovery move, making it really difficult to take down when used with Will-O-Wisp. Psychic completes the set by providing a solid STAB move that allows Mew to dish out major damage to Fighting-types.

This set has issues with Heatran, so be sure to pack in a solid Fire resist. It also can't do too much damage alone, outside of burning and annoying opponents. For best results, pair this set with some entry hazard users. Stallbreaker Mew forces a ton of switches, so it could weaken opponents considerably with Stealth Rock and a layer or two of Spikes up.

  1. When I was dabbling in 5th gen a while back(Chomp was still OU at the time), I tried this out. It is a beast and extremely annoying for the opponent to deal with.

  2. I've been using this set in OU for a while, and it's just amazing :D
There's dozens of pokes this beats one on one. I think I first saw it being used by Folgorio.

  3. Ice beam can work over psychic to beat Gliscor and calm works as well as you can survive 2 specs draco meteors from Latios. Seismic toss for reuniclus. Depends on what you are weak too. This set is very very good. If you want to counter it, bait in a WoW to something like Heatran and blast it down with STAB fire moves. Volcarona and Infernape do well too. But it really is surprising how bulky this thing is.

  4. I've fought against this set several times, and it's quite annoying to take out. Most of the moves you would normally use to hit Mew super-effectively (U-Turn, Pursuit, Crunch, etc.) are physical, and are much harder to make use of due to WoW. This is a really underrated set with a lot of untapped potential.

  5. This is probably one of my favourite sets of the 5th gen. It can wall common physical threats such as Excadrill, Conkeldurr, Terrakion, etc. psychic will 2hko conk, whilst excadrill and terrakion are crippled with WoW. Mew is just a beast overall :)
